Lauren Lowenthal, Academic & Self-Management Coach for Teens, presents an impactful, engaging workshop, offering kids methods for raising their game and pursuing academic excellence, while still having a life.

 

Kids are taught how to work to a high standard. They are given practical methods for schoolwork, and techniques for achieving excellence through self- awareness, disciplined habits and a positive internal dialogue. Methods are illustrated and explained in easily digestible detail.

 

The irreverent tone and visually compelling presentation sparks young people to think strategically about taking control of their lives in order to raise their game and succeed at school and in life. They leave the workshop with surprising new insights, and a handout they can use to put these methods into action.

 

Students are presented with a toolbox of effective academic methods and everyday life skills that enable them to optimize their time, make smart choices, and earn higher grades.

 

Workshops are presented in two 4-hour sessions over 2 days and have been held in private homes, clubs, community centers & in association with professional & charitable organizations.

 

Frequently, kids realize they want to go to competitive schools long after making choices that make their acceptance less likely. For example, top colleges now require SAT Subject Tests in addition to the standard SAT or ACT, and many good colleges that do not require Subject Tests still give preference to applicants who have taken them. Capable students in relevant sophomore courses, such as biology or chemistry, should take the SAT Subject test in June of their sophomore year, when the material is fresh. There are many opportunities to strengthen your college profile.

The first step to academic success is to DO THE WORK, AS ASSIGNED, and to DO IT WELL.  But first, they need to learn HOW to WORK.

 

Kids are asked to demonstrate their knowledge, and prove that they are good students, in their homework, tests, papers, and in how they handle themselves in school. No matter how bright the student, how hard they try, or how much they know, they must be able to prove it by giving teachers what they want.

 

Many students get decent grades, but not the grades they want. They want to prove themselves by raising their game, but do not know how.

 

I teach kids how to work, how to understand and pursue high standards, and how to manage their time with a balance between school, extracurricular interests, and personal priorities.

 

We examine the student's habits, assumptions, expectations and standards, we put them in a good position to do their best, and move forward from there.

 

This is not another boring lecture. This is not a one-size-fits-all program. This is a toolbox of usable skills, with every question answered and every anxiety addressed. This practical approach to success in school and life is grounded in an understanding of what it means to work to high standards, and to make decisions that allow for fun when the time is right.
